Well, Sibelius actually is Swedish or Latin (Latinized Swedish?)
Pronounced Swedishly, (though not pitch accented, since Swedish in Finland
lacks pitch accent). Sibelius was bilingual.
I pronounce it /si'belius/, and I am bilingual...(come to think of it, I do
switch the stress to /'sibelius/ when speaking Finnish...ah, do whatever you
want to do)
The name was latinized sometime (educated people tended long ago to take
latinate names, or add latin inflections to their names, especially -us.
Though Sibelius is, I think a translation into latin from a Finnish or
Swedish name).
