Belatedly, trying to pronounce "vaak" with an American accent, I realize that you probably mean "vak" [vAk], not "vaak" [vak]. It doesn't mean "hobby" either, however; quite the contrary, it means "job, trade, profession" or "school subject", or "compartment, pigeon-hole".
