When I first start a conlang, I first decide the phonology. Then, I
work on the grammar, and I create a few words, usually words like "see",
"hit", "man", and so on, so that I can create a few basic sentences to
try out gramatical ideas, for example:
I see the man
I hit the man
I hit the man who killed my brother
and so on. Once I've got a small vocabulary, and some idea of what the
grammar's like, I try my hand at more complex, real-world, sentences.
No special text, tho. Just sentences culled from books or whatever.
