Understood :)
I happen to think English spelling is worse than French. But what I was
taking exception to was (maybe I had misunderstood) the notion that English
is so very different and that all other orthographies are comparatively
easy. I was pointing out that there are, in fact, other orthographies
which are found to be awkward by their users.
I was,to be honest, surprised by my daughter-in-law's assertion. But she
insists on it.
