I think a-e ligature stands for Latin ae [aj] and for when Latin borrows Greek ai (same diphthong). The o-e lig is Latin oe, Greek oi [oj]. Like, G. Oidipos > L. Oedipus I hope that answers your question. Buenas noches, Ben
