You do understand correctly about XML and SGML, but not about Lojban:
the parser recovers nicely from omitted closing particles. Occasionally
it can get radically confused and drop real content; this seems to depend
on the exact details of the Yacc parser skeleton, which Lojban strains
pretty hard.
