I have always had a certain sneering, cynicism toward that phrase
"pursuit of Happiness." Happiness is quite overrated for bein' just a mental
state... a confluence of personal disposition/character (or lack thereof),
situational/ephemeral conditions and neurochemical reactions in the brain.
That a high ideal can come from a fleeting emotional state is rather - to
my understanding and view - flimsy philosophy... that elevating happiness to
an end in itself seems somewhat tainted with selfish hedonistic and
materialistic license to excess.
"Excess is excrement. Excrement retained in the body is poison."
Happiness is dangled before us like a consumer product... a carrot on a
stick.
Boredom is malignant... avoid infection at all COSTS.
We are made to feel that if we are unhappy, we must be "sick."
Street drugs, doctor's drugs... better living thru chemistry...
We are undone and done... stick a fork in us... we are consumable, too.
OBCONLANG/CONCULTURE: Does any of this ranting & raving inspire any
vocabulary or ideas?
