Yes, possible - even among the ancients the horseshoe-shaped bone
supporting the root of the tongue was known as the 'hyoides osteon.' So
a 'horseshoe-shaped schwa' could be described as a 'hyoid schwa.'
An alternative might be to describe it rather as a "u used as schwa".
'Schwa' is a Germanized spelling of Hebrew שְׁוָא which would be Latinized
as 'seva', so I guess one could speak of a "sevate u" (sevatum u)
