Conlangs in films/books

Greetings,
You know, I can tell how long I've been away from CONLANG by the simple fact
that everytime I try to send an e-mail to the list I automatically type in
"diku.dk" instead of "listserv.brown.edu" and have to go back and correct
myself!
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone out there knew anything about the following
two conlangs...
1) the "trade language" spoken by Kevin Costner and another guy in the film
"Waterworld".
2) the Elvish language used by Gael Baudino in her 4-book series (whose name
I now forget, darnit) about Elves and humans that starts in the Middle Ages
when Christianity is driving the Elves out and ends in the present day when
the Elven blood is awakening in people who are descendants of long-ago
Elf/human unions.
Regards to all,
Thomas Leigh
