Fascinating. I sometimes use things like that, "quarter till lunch" or
whatever.

I do that, too. Probly because with an analog watch, 8:45 is visibly
one-fourth of an hour before nine, or three-quarters of the way to nine,
or other ways, while digital watches *say* 8:45.
