Well, it's my father's take on things (& I agree with him to a large
degree). My Dad is harsh man at times, as a Spanish friend says of him:
_hombre duro_.
I do admire my father for his ultra-critical bluntness & ultra-dry acidic
wit besides his obvious stiff-upper-lip stoicism, battle-worn tenacity &
creative Taoist sensibilities.
British Colonialism has scarred my father deeply, an early radical
Socialist idealism has left him somewhat groundless politically* & he seems
to have a love-hate thing with all things British (& American).

* tho' this year he seems to have regained his footing & is almost rabidly
insisting all us Chang kids vote Green Party (Ralph Nader).
