Yikes! I've been missing this since my return has been marked by terrible
overwork -- changed job, and greatly increased burden of work.
The limit is certainly changeable, but exists because experience shows that
if we go above 100 messages/day we start to drop subscribers rather
rapidly. In the past, such spikes have also been associated with large
quantities of off-topic posting -- something I try to discourage, given the
ever-increasing volume of the list. Now, it's true, that the spikes are
more often due to translation relays and the like. I will be leaving the
raised message limit in place on that account.
I'd rather not be relying on a commercial venture for this, especially
given my level of confidence about many internet business models. Even
though listserv requires some care and feeding, it's very robust software,
and Brown will not go away anytime soon.
My thoughts so far.
