I'm thinking of an evolution like that in "Roumant", except that the VL /e/ of
veclus would certainly by diphtongized. I'm thinking of /vjE/ in masculine and
/vjES/ in feminine or with liaison. Was the /e/ in veclus short or long?
As for words with -iliV in Latin, even FAMILIA evolved regularly in French
(giving "famille" /fa'mij/). I'm thinking in "Roumant" of an ending /i(Z)/.
Sounds quite reasonable to me.
Christophe.
