As part of the 23rd century setting for my novel in progress I =
invented
a phonemic spelling of English called Vermont Revised Spelling. Details =
are
at http://www.connix.com/~dennis/rbweb/vrs.htm. It was discussed on this
list a few years ago. I revised it slightly as a result of that =
discussion.
I plan to revise it slightly again soon, making the distinction between
vowels more coarse.
This was supposedly invented by a progressive political leader =
without
linguistic training. It reflects the pronunciation of 22nd century =
Vermont,
which is surprisingly like my own. :-) Some examples:
standard VRS
pin pin
bet bet
pain pane
spoon spoon
book buuck
like like
pawn paun (will probably be "pon" after the next revision)
power pouer
church cherch
under under
feed fede
should shuud
boil boil
yellow yello
purple perpl
won't wonte
joy joy
i'm ime
you're yuur
he's heze
she's sheze
it's its
they're dhare
