By the looks of things, there is an inherent distinction between

koyotsu wa iku

and

iku wa koyotsu da

which is that "iku" on its own is a verb, whereas koyotsu needs the addition of
"- da" to give a verbal sense.

If the usual, legal forms of the expressions either both included or both
excluded "- da", then you'd certainly have a point.

japanese :
koyotsu wa iku : 'the coyote goes'

iku (no) wa koyotsu da : 'he who goes is a coyote'


koyotsu : coyote
iku : go
wa : topic
da : be = whatever person

you know what ? the whole trick in linguistics is to stick "-" at the right
spot.
i mean, if japanese had the brilliant idea to write "iku wa-koyotsu-da" and
"koyotsu wa-iku" instead of "iku wa koyotsu da" and "koyotsu wa iku",
then they would not tell verbs from nouns anymore.
the whole face of the earth changes for so little.

BTW , ultimate test is : "the hungry coyote goes". try that one and tell
us.
