A later stage of W. has implosives, developed from geminate voiced
stops. That is, /dd/ becomes /d`/. This stage also has aspirated
stops, developed from geminate voiceless stops, so that /tt/ becomes
/t_h/, thus a four-way contrast between /t_h/, /t/, /d/, /d`/. The
implosives may have ejective allophones, which is not uncommon among
langs with glottalic consonants.
