Strange.
http://www.mozilla.org/projects/phoenix/phoenix-release-notes.html#install says:
# Once you have downloaded the binary, use winzip or gzip to unzip Phoenix
# to an empty directory. Do not unzip Phoenix to a directory that already
# contains a binary. Either delete the existing directory, move it out of
# the way or create a new directory. If you install Phoenix on top of an
# existing Phoenix or Mozilla directory you will have problems.
Then just run the Linux or Windows binary. No effects on the Windows
registry, no hooks anywhere.
Here are the links for Phoenix 0.5:
Windows: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/phoenix/releases/0.5/phoenix-0.5-win32.zip
Linux: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/phoenix/releases/0.5/phoenix-0.5-i686-pc-linux-gnu.tar.gz
