Well. Both "te amo" and "te quiero" are posible constructions. At least=
in
my culture, "amar" implies a greater comitment than "querer".
"Te amo" would be seldom used for love between friends. Between male
friends would be somehow inacceptable to say "te quiero" unless you are
drunk or you don't care accepting homosexuality... Anyhow, "te quiero"or
"lo quiero" (male to male) are mor neutral than "te amo".
