My flight is to arrive about 10:30 am at San Francisco

conlangers from out of town arriving at about the same time,
maybe we could share the cost of the shuttle to UC Berkeley?

In case there are others flying into San Francisco, you can take
the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit--a subway system) from the
airport to Berkeley. It's on level 3 in the international terminal
(ask an attendant and they can point you in the right direction).
Once you find the station...

(1) Board the Dublin/Pleasanton-bound train and take it to
Balboa Park.

(2) At Balboa Park, transfer to a Pittsburg/Bay Point train. Take
This train to 12th St./Oakland City Center.

(3) At Oakland City Center, you should be able to cross the
platform to your next train--a Richmond-bound train.

(4) Take the Richmond-bound train to Downtown Berkeley (not
North Berkeley).

(5) Go up the escalator, and you'll be at Constitution Plaza at the
intersection of Shattuck and Center. There's a Washington
Mutual right there, a Bank of America catty-corner, and a great
shop called Games of Berkeley right across the street.

(6) Go east on Center up to the Berkeley campus. If you're on
the Washington Mutual side, this will involve you going to the
Games of Berkeley side.

(7) Once you're on campus, you should be able to follow Google
directions to your hotel. This is very walkable (though walking
east, there is a slight uphill grade).

That's how to do it if you take the BART and walk. Doing so will
only cost you $5.65, which should be far less than taking a cab or
a shuttle. It's a bit of a hassle, since you have to transfer twice
(it's slightly easier coming from the Oakland airport), and you have
to walk, but if you're looking to save some money, this is the way
to go. Just one of many options.

If anyone has any Berkeley questions, I'm more than willing to
help!

(Note: For this latter option, there is a $2 shuttle from the airport
to the BART station. Total cost is $4.10.)
