I don't recall learning the cases in any particular order in German
class, but then we didn't have a textbook, either. Wheelock's Latin
text, which is the one I used, has the above order, as do both of my
Latin dictionaries. In Russian class, using a textbook published in
Russia, it was Nom-Acc (-Gen-Prep-Dat-Instr).
All of the above studying took place in the US as well.
