When I was living in Uppsala (where people say something like /xwY:k/ for "sjuk"), I heard some people say /vEkS2/ and others /vEkxw2/. There seem to be a few words where the two sounds are in free variation. For instance, "kanske" ("maybe") was pronounced /kanSE/ by most of the people I met, but a significant minority said /kanxwE/, or even alternated between the two. Matt.
