Um, there's the program "IPA Help" out there, and I'm going by the
sounds it has. The sound it has for schwa is the sound I hear on "The
Beatles Live at the BBC", where Paul says "riding on a bus" - the vowel
in "bus". Very different from what I have in that place. Ergo, I
transcribe what I say for "bus" as [bVs] - which is validated by IPA
Help.
It's really quite a useful program, IPA Help, but I forgot where I found
it.
