Actually, what's the deal with schwa and carrot? I asked two of my
linguistics teachers, and all they can say is that carrot appears in stressed
syllables; schwa does not. That can't be the only difference, can it?
Sometimes I pretend I can hear the difference, but it's hard to isolate...
