schwa [@] is mid-central and unrounded. Carrot [V] is back open unrounded.
Something like the following is my mind map:
. i/I u/U
. e o
. @/3
. E V O
. & a Q A
I'm not sure on the relative positions of e/E and o/O. Columns are front
unrounded, mid unrounded, back unrounded, back rounded. I've only listed
those vowels that occur in my dialect.
Strangely, for me [V] is consistently pronounced at a higher pitch than [@],
as well as being pronounced further back. The main oddity for me is that
[3:] may as well be [@:] for me.
