IUPAC is the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry, they
have other names in other languages, but they have the final say in
what the international name of a molecule in a given language will be,
they make all the rules and maintain databases on chemicals.

The language, like I said was more of a code, and did not have very
many of what IUPAC calls trivial names, which are the names we use in
everyday life such as isopropanol, but rather could generate
systematic names, like propan-2-ol.

To demonstrate, in the current edition of the language, isopropanol
aka propan-2-ol would be akite.
