I have translated the Prayer of St. Francis into Senjecas. I thought
others might like to use it as a translation exercies.
The Prayer of St. Francis
sâku fránsiskûsyo mêlðos
Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace.
aryû, mum túsyo miirâsyo mhêêlom kwêre.
Lord, me of-your peace tool make.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
jéti cêdas êsa, mhênas mum sêêgo;
where hatred it, love me let-sow;
where there is injury, pardon;
jéti ðêvas êsa, dûûras;
where injury es, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
jéti bûkas êsa, êjas;
where doubt is, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
jéti vîlkas êsa, îlkas;
where despair is, hope.
where there is darkness, light;
jéti rêêmas êsa, lûkas;
where darkness is, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
jétikwe lûûdzas êsa, kwîîtas.
where-and sadness is, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as
to console;
o diijmhû mhalðû, mum n' épi kwîîjaþus tââlu épi kwîîju pêmho dûte;
o divine master, me not so consoled to-become as to-console seek
grant;
to be understood as to understand;
n' épi mhêêjaþus tââlu épi mhêêju;
not so understood to-become as to-understand;
to be loved as to love;
n' épi mhênaþus tââlu épi mênu;
not so loved to-become as to-love;
for it is in giving that we receive;
mhááti jéti mhus dôôna, toááru mhus mhrîîa;
for when we give, then we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
jéti mhus dôôna, toááru mhus dúúraþûes tââla;
when we pardon, then we pardoned become;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
jétikwe mhus mêêra, toááru mhus ââja zwiijâsy' éna dzêênwa.
when-and we die, then we eternal life into are-born.
