As I understand it, it's pretty much like any other creole.
Of course, in this case, they had previously had a system of signs which
had been used in the home, invented by their speaking (i.e., linguistic)
family members. Plus, these were human beings. If language began in
pre-human Hominids, then this case would be a moot point.
