Not necessarily. It is merely the hypothetical common ancestor of all *extant* languages. There may have been many other languages at the time. Similarly, Mitochondrial Eve was not the only female Homo sapiens at the time, merely the one whose descendants (in the female line) has survived. Note that M.E. has to have at least two daughters. If she had none, she has no descendants in the female line, a contradiction. If she had just one, the daughter is the real M.E.
