Well I've used the IPA fonts from SIL (the freeware ones, i.e. Doulos,
Sophia and Manuscript, which are based on Times Roman, Helvetica and
Courier, respectively, and include bold/italic/bold-italic fonts as
well).
I don't exactly *need* three typefaces though, and I found a free font
set simply called IPAPhon. It is based on my favorite printing font,
Book Antiqua (Palatino for Macs), and is too supplied with bold and
italic. The bold-italic font, however, is a whole new set of symbols,
indicating disordred speech (ls and lz ligatures, feng, the bidental
and bilabial percussives), rare features, "Americanist" phonetic
symbols, and pulmonic activity.
