Funny, that's exactly how the early Teonim punctuated their sentences!
It
became miniaturized, and the "period" is now two short little lines
hanging
down at the bottom of the final letter. The other punctuation mark is
the
question mark, which sometimes goes at the beginning of the sentence.
Besides that, the Teonim are largely indifferent to punctuation.
