I was wondering what |Henrik| would be in Klingon... my first thought
was |HenrIq| [XEnrIq], but that was influenced by the spelling, since
Klingon |r| is [r]. I suppose |HenghIq| [XEnGIq] might be closer.
(Though I'm not sure whether |H| is [x] or [X], but I think it's the
latter, despite what http://www.kli.org/tlh/sounds.html says... even
if that means that it has no voiced counterpart nor does [G] have a
voiceless one... but then Klingon isn't afraid of "holes" in the
phonology, e.g. [t] and [d`] but no [d] or [t`], so pairing [G] with
[X] is about the same.)
Oh, and anything with -ndr- would be impossible since Klingon has,
TTBOMK, exactly three permissible syllable-final consonant clusters
[w?] [j?] [rG], so you'd typically only have a maximum of two
successive consonants (one syllable-final and the next
syllable-initial). (NB there are a couple of affricates [dZ) tS) qX)
tK)], which I'm counting as one sound for this purpose, since they
pattern as single phonemes.)
So, what do you think of |HenghIq|?
Cheers,
