No I didn't see the news this weekend because I was working for most of
it and tired for the rest. As a matter of fact I'm very interested in
current events when I have the time and energy to watch the news... but
the weekend is never one of those times.
 BTW, I was under the impression that the variation in spoken Arabic is
so great that some of the dialects are pretty much mutually
unintelligable and probably more like separate languages. Is this true?
And is there any variation in the pronounciation of r or is it the same
in every dialect?
