Well, it's a bit more complicated than that. Most of my /@/s sound
exactly like my /V/s apart from emphasis. Some /@/s do come out more
[I]ish, but the guiding factor seems to be mouth position going in.
The final schwa in <explicit> is [I]like because my mouth was all set up
for the emphasied /I/ in the preceding syllable.
