I gave myself the Lojban Red Book and several Spanish references, including the biggest of the Oxford Spanish/English dictionaries, the updated 501 verbs book (to replace my dilapidated 301 version), and two books on idioms and proverbs. (I'm speaking Spanish exclusively to my newborn son and found my reference library was sorely lacking in the Spanish department since I "already knew it". Sadly, the past tense is quite operative there . . .)

Good idea! But what does Eastern/Julian Christmas have to do with Donatism? Other upcoming holidays on which you could fete yourself this week: Date (Gregorian) Event/Anniversary Book Jan 1 New New Year's Day Something by Caesar Jan 2 Lithuanian Independence Day Lithuanian lang ref Jan 3 Martin Luther's excommunication Latin/German dict Jan 4 Earth's perihelion German lang ref Jan 5 Villon banned from Paris _Le_Ton_Beau_de_Marot_ Jan 6 Harold Godwinson crowned Old English ref Which brings us up to 2004 Jan 7 (Gregorian)/2003 Dec 25 (Julian), the above-mentioned Eastern Christmas. I see that Jan 7th is also the anniversary of Alfonso IV's coronation, so perhaps a Portuguese ref would be an appropriate present? :) -Mark
