I must be one of the most ignorant in this list, as regards second natlangs. :(
My L1 is Spanish, Rioplatense dialect. I'm quite fluent in spoken English once
I get accustomed; my English is nominally speaking British English (I write
colour, behaviour, etc. and drop my closing-syllable /r/'s). I've gathered
lots of tiny pieces of other natlangs, but mostly grammar, not vocabulary. I
can recognize some parts of speech in a German or Japanese sentence if you
give me time... I learned some French at school, although again my vocabulary
is small, and I can understand a Portuguese or Italian sentence -- that's an
advantage of Spanish, it has close relatives! I know about the grammar features
of some languages more than its average speakers must know, but it's all theory.
My language-learning favourite hobby is to surf the WWW looking for grammars.
As for the relationship with conlanging, yes, there is one. I like to learn
about languages in order to improve my conlanging. Ocasionally I might also
wish to really learn a language, but I don't have much time. (I've been told
about a free Hebrew class at one university here in town, so I guess I'll go
have a look).
