Well, it's definately different from /O/, remember: gone /gQ:n/ and born
/bO:n/ (and lawn /lO:n/) don't rhyme. It's certainly less rounded and
I'm pretty sure (but could be wrong) that it's also lower (the
articulation within the mouth feels different in a similar way to the
diff. between /O:/ and /u:/).
