Have you seen CDex? The homepage is at http://www.cdex.n3.net/. It's a freeware,
open source program that "rips" MP3 files from CDs, converts WAV files to MP3,
and records a live input stream (e.g. from a mic) to an MP3 file. I've found it
quite useful; it's how I made the MP3 files of my conlangs I put on my website
a year or two ago.
