Sorry - I should've written /aI@`n/, i.e. a retroflex mid, central vowed.
Retroflex vowels are common in both the urban & rural speech of the south
west and are common in the rural dialects of the midlands. (They were once
common in the rural speech of the south-east also, but the effect of London
has been too great and the south-east is now lmost entirely 'non-rhotic')
