The film was more in the 90s.  Go see it, it's great!

It might not be the sites that are jokes, but the whole film is a very
funny parody of Startrek and similar scifi movies.  In short, the plot
is that a team of actors who play in a TV series 'Galaxy Quest' are
visited by real extraterrestrials and hired to help them out of a
problem, because the aliens took the TV show for real and think the
actors are real space ship commanders.

One of the funniest things about the DVD is that you can select
dubbing in the aliens' language.  Hilarious! :-)

Very worth seeing IMHO.
