USAGE: np

Dear linguistically inclined and computer literate listmates:
A friend and I recently got in to a discussion about the usage of the
netspeak abbreviation "np" for "no problem." In my usage, I can only
use "np" where I mean "no problem" as in "you're welcome." However,
for my friend, he can use it even where he means "not a problem" or
"that's fine."
What is your usage?
