No, this was about fonts like Arial Unicode MS and Lucida Sans
Unicode, which go well beyond WGL4 --- but which were constructed back
when Unicode 2.0 wasn't out yet.
Talking of fonts, I'm now running Xfree86 4.1.99.1 on my work laptop,
and I can report that it installs with text mode support for utf-8 and
overstriking diacritics (max 2), and terminal fonts with full coverage
for Unicode 3. It's just a pity that FreeBSD has such abysmal locale
support, and doesn't know UTF-8 from a hole in the ground.
