For me, the "official" pronunciation is with /U@/ (as in my "poor"),
and that is what I try to produce; I think the /O:/ comes from
influences from American (my "native" lect got mixed up a bit during 12
years of schooling and hearing many Americans).
So now I sort-of have to lects: one reasonably close to RP (IMO), which
I got from my father, and one fairly American (for example, it's
rhotic, and some vowels are different). Which one I use depends, among
other things, on whom I speak with. (I think that when I simply read
English text to myself, I use the RP-oid pronunciation.) My spelling
and grammar tends to be (conservative) British, though, regardless of
the pronunciation I employ.
