While [i] as an allophone of /i:/ is very rare in English, it does
exist. For example I have it in _demolished_.

Well, you certainly know that [p] occurs as an co-allophone of [p_h]
in certain positions, so this doesn't make sense either.
I think you're confusing "phonemic difference" with "differences
between most common realisations".
