Freeservers (www.freeservers.com) are quite good; obviously you still get advertising put
on your site, but you can't avoid that. They'll give you your own domain
though, for instance http://kash.freeservers.com/ whereas at Geocities you have
a huge long unwieldy thing for your url.
If you could get your ISP to host one, possibly you'd have to pay for it, but
quite possibly you're already paying for it and just not using it. You also
probably wouldn't have to have adverts either.
