Geocities is certainly not a bad place to host a page. The adverts
are annoying but not especially intrusive. I haven't tried their
html editor, though. That I learnt the hard way, essentially by
looking at the codes in the Page of Brithenig (or elsewhere if
what I needed wasn't there) and figuring out how it all worked.
You might also try one of those "... for Dummies" books. I know
there's one for html, and possibly one for website design. I
never liked them because I think they're too complicated - but
that's just me!
