A lot of it didn't want to! And a number of the
Legislature were locked up so they couldn't vote
for secession. I guess it wouldn't do to have the
capital of the Union in the middle of the
Confederacy!
Anyway, a lot of the elderly natives of the DC
area are quite Southern in their perspective and
attitudes.
