The most drastic instance of reduction I can think of is the sentence I described here: http://listserv.brown.edu/archives/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind0302D&L=conlang&P=R25463&D=0&H=0&O=T&T=1 (back in my early days on the list before I knew the dangers of starting Yet Another English Pronunciation Thread) Basically, the sentence involves the reduction of "I am going to have" to 2 syllables [aIm g&v], starting from 6 or 4 depending on whether you take hypercorrect speech or normal-speed colloquial speech as your starting point. Another instance that comes to mind is an instance when my sister said [djAn@] as a reduced form of "do you want to" - 4 syllables to 2. ______________________________________________________________________ Post your free ad now! http://personals.yahoo.ca
