I deeply appreciate the thorough conhistorical explanation regarding the
Celtic Church.
I would say it is quite plausible enough for conlanging purposes. On the
Bull Laudabiliter conveying control of Ireland to Henry II, my impression is that
by that time the power of the church to transfer sovereignties was not based
so much on the Donation of Constantine as it was on the position that the
pope, as the true spiritual ruler, was superior to *all* worldly rulers
(regardless of whether they were within the former Roman Empire) because the spiritual
was inherently superior to the mundane.
