More like [gAxA:n_j]. To be honest, I still use the old one myself.
The only unpronounced bunch of letters in the old form is the `th'.
The new one is a regaelicisation of the anglicisation my branch of
the family use. I've never liked it and have used the older form
for as long as I remember.
