A unique opportunity

First of all, I have to say that I'm proud of myself
for having learned how to say that little bit of
Kayasanoda in my best impression of Dr Nick Riviera
from the Simpsons.
Now, for the real matter at hand. I hope that despite
the current foment in the group we can collectively
open our eyes to a great opportunity. I am good
friends with a woman who helps to coordinate the
Chicago Area Mensa Gathering the last weekend of
October. They always have an array of guest speakers.
Given that this a subject I thought the attendees
might enjoy, that the LOTR movies have increased
awareness of conlanging and that the next movie will
be shortly after the gathering, and that there is
already booked a speaker from the Tolkein Library at
nearby Wheaton College, I have been given the green
light to ask if there would be anyone interested in
speaking on the subject of conlanging. Those in the
Chicago area (could anyone pass this on to Thomas
Wier?) may be particularly interested since you
wouldn't have to pay for a hotel room.
A guest speaker attends with a sizable chunk of the
fee for the weekend knocked off the bill (you'd only
pay something like $25 as opposed to something like
$70), access to 24-hour hospitality rooms (so you
don't need to pay anything on meals for the weekend),
access to lectures, games, activities, dances, etc
over the entire weekend, and an opportunity to take
the Mensa qualifier test (knowing this group, I'm sure
almost everyone would qualify!). There is also a
vending area, so if someone would be interested in
selling books, software, etc, you could that too.
If anyone is interested, please let me know. I will
hook you up with my friend Cynthia, who would give
more details. The only thing I know other than what
I've already said is that you have to send in a
manuscript of your speech in advance. And, though I
doubt it's an inducement, I plan to attend this year.
Let me know, the sooner the better, if anyone is
